Action Steps in Your Community
10 Things You Can Do!
In addition to talking to parents that are
in your “party circuit” world about de-pressuring birthdays,
here are some other things you can do as a citizen to raise
awareness of the problem of out of control birthdays as a
cultural issue.
- Talk to
someone else in your community about this issue.
- E-mail a
link of our website to a friend or family member.
-
Send us a blog.
- Write a
letter to the editor about this issue to your local paper.
Include our web address.
- Call a
local radio talk show and weigh in on the issue. Share our web
address.
- E-mail us
with an update on the actions you've taken in your community.
- Encourage
educators in your community to access our lesson plans around
this issue. They are available on the website.
- Organize a
house party around this issue. Have a screening of "Parenting
Wisely In A Too Much Of Everything World." This is a 90 minute
interactive talk given by Prof. Bill Doherty. This is the talk
that launched our project back in January 16, 2007. Invite your
friends, family and neighbors. Have discussions during and
afterward. Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope suitable for a DVD and/or
bumper sticker to Todd Seabury-Kolod, St. Paul Public Schools, Rondo ECFE,
560 Concordia Ave, St. Paul, MN 55103 and we'll mail you a free copy. Postage
for the SASE should be $1.64 in the continental US. We will pay
postage on international orders.
- Think about
similar issues in your community which may feel out-of-control. Talk to others
about it and consider whether something can be done.
- Put a
bumper sticker on your car (birthdayswithoutpressure.org) to
help spread the word. Send us a self-addressed and stamped
legal envelope and we'll send you a free bumper sticker. Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope suitable for a DVD and/or
bumper sticker to Todd Seabury-Kolod, St. Paul Public Schools, Rondo ECFE,
560 Concordia Ave, St. Paul, MN 55103.
